Resident Dilettante is a New York-based production company developing new works with upcoming artists in theater and film. Devoted to following the needs of our community through the lens of our work, we find our projects and collaborators through word of mouth, building a troupe of incredible artists across mediums.
We believe in making art with people that inspire us, and making art that inspires us to meet new people. Our circle is always growing, but our projects are consistently spaces of joyful collaboration. We firmly believe in the repeat hire, and always follow up to support our past casts and crews on their journeys.
Community-based, not client-based.
“I think we’re the only company that funds their film division with their theater division.”
Having begun as a theatrical production company, Resident Dilettante has produced work in theaters across New York, including Theater for a New City, the Tank, the Mark O’ Donnell, and Soho Playhouse. Our work has also toured across New Zealand and braved the elements in site-specific venues, such as the iconic St. John’s in the Village.
In the past year alone, we’ve been featured in the Emerging Artists Spark Festival and Soho Playhouse’s Lighthouse Festival.
What’s Next?
With our short film, To the Floor, coming out of post-production, our play, How to Build a Gate, finishing its Off-Broadway run as a finalist at the Soho Playhouse Lighthouse Festival, and our production of Romeo and Juilette, co-produced with the Sullivan Players, finishing a fully sold out run— we’ve had our hands full all Summer.
We’re excited to go into the Fall with many projects already on the books, including a return to the Emerging Artists Festival with an old favorite, The Rug: A Grief Comedy. Written by Electra Artemis and starring Same Besca, Dillettante co-founders, The Rug will also serve as the warmest welcome back to our friend, and previous lead actress, Lena Pepe, as our director.
