Resident Dilettant Premieres at New Zealand Fringe

How to Build a Gate goes over the Atlantic again.

“Low maintains rapid pace without breaking a sweat” - Theatreview

“A story for our time” - Theatreview

Never didactic, there’s empathy beneath the edginess, and a willingness to explore why the drive to be exceptional so often conceals a terror of ordinariness.”

- Fringe Review

Thanks to the incredible and unstoppable Kate Low, we’re thrilled to have our show, How to Build a Gate, back in New Zealand, where it started its very first run in the Summer of 2024. But I hate to say, this time we won’t be touring. Instead, we’ve landed at the amazing Bats Theater, where the show will premiere its brand new, never-before-seen, fully reworked rendition of Liza’s and Hal’s story that was finished by the writer in record time.

“Electra Artemis’s play is more wildfire than merely combustible.  It’s sharp, funny, and entirely of the moment.” - Fringe Review

“Low’s faultless, stellar performance gives Liza a clipped confidence and quicksilver wit that is beguiling yet also repellent. ” - Fringe Review

“Mechanically precise in timing, Piggott captures with remarkable accuracy the intonation and seemingly emotionless expression associated with AI-generated speech, every word and pause calculated, yet never cold.” - Fringe Review

Fresh off an Off-Broadway run in New York at Soho Playhouse, where it was featured as a finalist in the Lighthouse Festival, How to Build a Gate was performed by the two incredible actors who’ve led the production from the very beginning. Kate Low, a New Zealand local, and Megan Pigott are seasoned New York actors who are as excited for their Fringe debut as we are.

Taking our company international yet again, Low is a force of nature, and she has even more productions planned for 2026.
